Sage's Promise

Post by Scripted Valin on Thu Jan 22, 2015 8:13 pm

I've made a lot of mistakes in my life, most including slaughter, terrorism, corruption...But my greatest, most numbing regret, was the day I died, and the promise that began my agony.

You can imagine a young, fasinated pup that found all the life, beauty, and value in the world amazing, and you would have a good idea of my younger days. I had my own ways, my very nature was to know more about what the world was like.

I can say my first weeks of life were wonderful and I learned by watching, watching nature. Then I found the lake, reflecting, I saw mysef for the first time and realised I did not look like my mother besides my eyes, green whites and blue, but I knew they were also the eyes of a Grim. A Protecter of Life, A Hunter of Evil. I had the marks on my body, black twisting, curving, and alive. The main difference between me and my mother was appearance, I did not look like my mother, who was graceful, delicate, and had the presence of kindness. I was stocky, lightly muscled, and assertive. I guessed I looked like my father. Mother never spoke of him so my siblings and I had thought he was dead.

The lake did not show me the approching black fog until it was too late, my lungs were searing and I hit the ground. Despair was the feeling I succumed to and then I felt nothing. I wasnt scared or in pain, just calm. Just blank.
It had felt like hours before I woke. The lake was black and the forest, dead. The voice I heard echoed emptily around me, "No More Fear, No More Pain. You Were Young. Were Your Last Moments Unbearable? I Can Help..." I could not answer, my body, my very soul felt drained of life, but as if he knew what I felt he spoke again. "You Are No Longer Alive. Death Takes Everything." His cold voice showed no sympathy. I let out a whine as my thoughts came back, I was dead? Never going to grow up? Thats it? I felt the despair again, the agony. "Do Not Give In. Weakness Will Not Repair What Has Been Done. " The voice growled angrily, "You Are Dead But Not Gone. Fight. Only When You Accept Deaths Touch Do You Truly Vanish" I didn't understand, Fight? How? "To Live Again You Must Promise, Promise To Become Strong, So You May Never Be Weak Again." The voice boomed from everywhere at once. "I....I pro-mise...." The moment I spoke those words was the beginning of my regret. My mistake.

My family never noticed the change in me, I wanted only to gain power, to keep my life. Not lose it again. Never to feel that icy despair again.

I found a floating ball of fire in a meadow one day, and was suprised when it turned into a pup made of flames and smoke. She did not have a name so I decided I would name her, and when I thought about it my thoughts kept flowing back towards the veil of fire that she appeared to be. "Valin." She squealed and ran all over the place, while I smiled.
I learned a week later, that fate is cruel. I heard screams and terrible roars from the meadow, I met Valin there because I didn't want my family to send her away. When I got there only blood and ash met my senses. "Valin??!!!" I fought to get her out of the jaws of the hellhound that held her. My desperate tries to save her were ended when the beast threw me into a tree trunk and slammed a giant paw onto my side, crushing ribs, breaking my spine, and leaving me unable to move again. I watched Valin's dim fires until my vision left me and darkness came.

"What Have You Learned Now, Pup?" The familiar voice rang in disgust.

I had died once again, the terrible fate of it would never leave me, And I knew it wouldnt be satisfied until I was truly gone. I was heartbroken because I could not save Valin. Was she dead? Was she waiting for me to find her? The big black wolf that I met when I died had told me to become strong. The promise meant everything now.

Life went on and I kept the lessons I had learned And would learn close to my heart, they would help me to keep my promise. I repeated those words, Keep The Promise. Must Not Fail. Always Remember.

I learned from watching, I kept my distance from hellhounds and practiced their motions. They were all brawn though, I soon realised their way of fighting wouldn't suit me so I looked for something else. After searching for a few weeks, regretably a long time of doing absolutely nothing, I came across an old wolf who called himself, Miseruan Hence. He was the most confusing, random wolf I have ever met. But he understood how I felt and what I was. He taught me so much, convinced my mother to let me travel with him and took me with him to the land of The Four Moons, though I'd always prefer my homeland, Okami.

After a year of being Apprenticed to Miseruan we were heading back to Okami and while we walked he said something that shocked me and nearly crushed my spirit. "Your Dead Messor."  he didn't even give me a chance to say i wasnt. "Your real soul, your real body, you died at that lake. Your a ghoul with a mind and soul. Not alive but not quite dead."

I learned so much from Miseruan but that was the most important, if I was dead then what did I have to lose?

My next actions still haunt me. I was a fool, too young to see what my choice would become, too confident to realism there was everything to lose.

I had heard of a pack of demons, hounds taking over the south. I decided that, since Death was on my side...Well what chance could they stand? I found, and attacked them. I Killed half of their pack and barely made it out alive. I was angry. I waited for another chance as I healed.

But I didn't heal in time. They came. Hundreds of demons, they destroyed and killed everything in their path, starting from the south, to the east then west. Witches laughter was loud enough to hear from my home in the north. My sister an I were on short trip to a river when it happened. My sister was killed. Her small form being dragged away by the witch I would come to know as, Mell. Mell had cast a spell to cause paralysis on us both and like a coward she had killed my baby sister while she cried and begged for me to help. I couldn't do anything but try to look away and cry, yell at Mell and for help. No help came and hours later the spell was released. The first thing I did was collapse in despair and grief.

I had to tell my family what had happened.
